Blinken To Visit Israel As War Escalates, Sealed-Off Gaza Faces Bombs: Top Points
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">US Secretary of State Antony Blinkne will visit Israel and Jordan to meet the senior officials in both the countries in the wake of escalations between Israel and Hamas. U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Blinken will be travelling to the Middle Eastern countries on Wednesday following surprise attacks by Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel on Saturday. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden condemned Hamas’ action on Israel as an "unadulterated evil unleashed on the world and said that the Palestinian militant group's stated purpose is to annihilate the state of Israel and kill Jewish people.</span></p> <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Biden said that at least 14 American citizen have been killed in the escalations so far. </span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Miller said that the visit by Blinken to Israel will be a message of solidarity and support." "He, of course, wants to hear from the leaders of Israel, hear from them directly about the situation they're facing ... about what they need and how we can best support them," he said, according to Reuters. </span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Israeli Defence Forces said that dozens of its fighter jets struck over 200 targets overnight in a neighbourhood of a Gaza city in response to an attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas with a ground offensive. </span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ongoing bombings in the Gaza Strip have reminded the people of ‘Nakba’ the Arabic word for catastrophe that refers to the 1948 war of Israel's creation that led to their mass dispossession.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Philippine Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo has said that two Filipinos have been killed in Israel as she condemned the attacks, reported AP. </span></li> </ul> <h3><strong>Death Toll Crosses 1,000 In Israel, Over 900 Killed In Palestine </strong></h3> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Israeli Defence Forces confirmed that the death toll in the country has surpassed 1,000 in one of the deadliest assaults in its history. Meanwhile, the Gaza health authority said that over 900 Palestinians have been killed so far in the escalations since Saturday. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to a Guardian report, over 100 bodies were retrived in the southern kibbutz of Be’eri, about 10 per cent of the community's population. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In Kfar Aza kibbutz, bodies of Israeli residents and Hamas militants lay on the ground beside strewn furniture and torched cars, the report added. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Palestinian authorities have claimed that Israeli warplanes and artillery used white phosphorus which is internationally prohibited.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Two Palestinian men were shot at by the Israeli forces who were left bleeding without any medical assistance, said the authorities, adding that both succumbed to their injuries. </span></p>
